Symptom

You Are Getting Viruses or Junk Email That Appear To Come From NetDezine

Cause

Email with viruses that you are apparently getting from NetDezine could actually be coming from any infected computer — with our address being "spoofed".

The W32.Sobig virus is one of several that was very active on the Internet around August, 2003. This virus causes email messages with viruses to be sent to you — apparently from people you have exchanged email with.
The W32.Sobig virus has infected large parts of the Internet.
NetDezine is very concerned about spreading viruses, and we make every effort to eliminate them from our company network.

Resolution

Delete email with these subjects, without opening the attachments:

  • Re: Details
  • Re: Approved
  • Re: Re: My details
  • Re: Thank you!
  • Re: That movie
  • Re: Wicked screensaver
  • Re: Your application
  • Thank you!
  • Your details

It is possible to rid your computers of the W32.Sobig virus using a program specifically designed for that virus, as described in this Symantec page, but a permanent solution to virus attacks is preferable.

We would also recommend that you install up to date anti-virus software and if you find that you are being inundated with Spam then we would suggest using an anti spam filter.
